The future of robotics in oil & gas is likely to be characterised by continued development and adoption of advanced technologies and more sophisticated robots that can perform a wider range of tasks. Although the sector is in a mature state, it will continue to benefit from the adoption of robotic and autonomous systems (RAS) technology at every level.
In our opinion, there are several reasons why robotics will continue to be used in the oil and gas industry, which we discuss in this blog.
Robots are expected to become more autonomous and capable of performing tasks with minimal human supervision. This could include the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms to enable robots to adapt to changing conditions and make decisions on their own. (Possibly even making the brews during tea break in the near future!)
Robots can be more cost-effective than human workers in the long run, as they can operate around the clock without the need for rest, allowing routine and non-routine tasks to be carried out continuously and increase output.
The use of robotics in the oil and gas industry is expected to improve safety by reducing the need for human workers to perform tasks in potentially hazardous environments. This could include the development of robots that are better able to navigate and operate in challenging environments.
Inspection robots are expected to become more efficient and capable of performing tasks faster and more accurately than humans, leading to increased productivity in the industry.
Robots are expected to play an increasingly important role in the collection and analysis of data, allowing operators to make more informed decisions about the operation and maintenance of oil and gas assets.
Finally, the use of robotics in the oil and gas industry can also help to reduce the environmental impact of operations by enabling companies to perform tasks with a lower carbon footprint. This can be especially important in an industry that has a significant impact on the environment.

The use of robotic systems can be critical not only in replacing repetitive inspection tasks and reducing the cost of energy but also in reducing health and safety risks by supporting personnel.
